GR-Uniforma: Exploring the Intersection of Music, Fashion, and Uniforms

GR-Uniforma, a project spearheaded by the visionary Gosha Rubchinskiy, delves into the fascinating relationship between music, fashion, and the concept of uniforma. This exploration manifests through collaborative collections, musical endeavors by the band GRUPPA, and a unique artistic vision that blurs the lines between these creative realms.

The project’s journey, marked by distinct “Parts” or chapters, showcases a dynamic evolution. Initially emerging as a clothing line, GR-Uniforma quickly expanded its scope to encompass music and performance art, creating a multi-faceted artistic entity.

Coda: GR-Uniforma and Adidas – The Final Chapter

In a fitting epilogue to GR-Uniforma’s sonic journey, Gosha Rubchinskiy revealed an exciting collaboration with Adidas, the renowned German sportswear brand synonymous with the iconic three stripes. This partnership culminated in the release of technical sneakers, perfectly timed with the launch of GRUPPA’s live album documenting their world tour. The GR-Uniforma by Gosha Rubchinskiy x adidas collection became available on October 30th at select retailers, including Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market stores worldwide, and through a network of carefully chosen boutiques. This collaboration represented a fusion of high fashion aesthetics with sportswear functionality, embodying the core tenets of uniforma in a contemporary context.

GRUPPA LIVE: A Musical Journey Captured

The live album, titled “GRUPPA LIVE,” offers a raw and immersive experience of the band’s performances. Recorded during live sessions in Moscow in December 2019, the album features ten tracks, including “HARDCORE (live),” “SVYAZ VREMEN (live),” and “YA I TY (live).” The tracklist showcases the breadth of GRUPPA’s musical style, ranging from energetic anthems to introspective pieces.

The band members, each contributing to the unique sound of GRUPPA, are:

Name Role
Nikita Bobkov Voice
Stepan Yasinskiy Guitar
Mikhail Politkovskiy Bass
Valentin Fufaev Synths
Anton Bazhinov Drums

The lyrics, primarily written by Nikita Bobkov, with contributions from Ivan Alexeev and Stepan Yasinskiy, add depth and poetic sensibility to GRUPPA’s music. Production was helmed by Gosha Rubchinskiy and Pavel Milyakov, with mastering contributions from Pavel Milyakov and Flaty, ensuring a polished yet authentic live sound.

GR-Uniforma Part//3: Denim and the Live Tour

Prior to the Adidas collaboration, GR-Uniforma unveiled Part//3, a denim-focused collection in collaboration with Diesel. This collection, “ГР-Униформа 3 Denim drop by Diesel,” further solidified GR-Uniforma’s presence in the fashion world. To celebrate this launch, GRUPPA embarked on a European tour in November and December 2019, bringing their music and the uniforma aesthetic to live audiences.

The tour kicked off with a debut performance in an abandoned cinema in downtown Milan, a visually striking setting that mirrored the raw and industrial undertones often associated with both GR-Uniforma’s clothing and GRUPPA’s music. This performance served as the launch event for the GR-Uniforma Part//3 Denim drop by Diesel, which became available on March 19th at select retailers.

The Milan concert was just the beginning. GRUPPA continued their tour with further concerts and acoustic performances in Paris and Moscow, expanding the reach of their music and the GR-Uniforma vision. The GR-Uniforma Part//3 collection itself launched initially at MODES Milan on November 28th, followed by wider release at Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market locations.

GR-Uniforma Part//1 & Part//2: Laying the Foundation

Earlier chapters of the GR-Uniforma project established the core concepts and artistic direction. Part//1 introduced GRUPPA and their music to the world, with the release of their record available on digital platforms from April 12th and a physical vinyl release via Vinyl Factory.

The video for their single “YA I TI,” filmed in Georgia, accompanied the launch of the GRUPPA collection on March 16th. This video and the accompanying questions and answers provide insights into the philosophy behind GR-Uniforma.

Gosha Rubchinskiy describes GR-Uniforma as a project exploring uniforma, community, and order. The beauty of uniforma, he suggests, lies in its ability to create a sense of belonging and shared identity. He links creation to self-discovery and views GR-Uniforma as an ongoing, evolving art project.

Part//2 hinted at an “OPERA,” an unrealized performance piece with costumes designed by Diesel. This concept further demonstrated the project’s ambition to transcend traditional fashion and music boundaries, venturing into performance art.

The Essence of GR-Uniforma

Through music, fashion, and performance, GR-Uniforma explores fundamental questions about art, identity, and community. It questions “WHAT IS MUSIC?”, “HOW IS MUSIC?”, “WHERE IS MUSIC?”, and “WHY IS MUSIC?”, offering poetic answers that resonate with the project’s artistic ethos.

The project emphasizes the importance of collaboration and synergy, highlighting that “working together makes a SYNERGY.” It suggests that art is a universal language, transcending nationality, and that beauty can be found “everywhere, inside and outside.”

GR-Uniforma, therefore, is more than just a clothing brand or a band. It is a holistic artistic project that utilizes uniforma as a central theme to explore the interconnectedness of creativity, community, and self-expression.
