Tennessee football has officially announced their uniform selection for the highly anticipated game against the Georgia Bulldogs. The Volunteers will be sporting their striking all-white uniforms as they head to Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia, for Saturday’s primetime matchup.

UT revealed on Thursday that the team will don white helmets, white jerseys, and white pants when No. 4 Tennessee (8-1, 5-1 SEC) faces off against No. 10 Georgia (7-2, 5-2) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET, with ABC broadcasting the game. This uniform choice is sure to resonate with fans and adds another layer of excitement to this crucial SEC East showdown.

A Look Back at the Vols’ 2024 Uniform Combinations

The 2024 season has seen the Tennessee Volunteers showcase a variety of uniform combinations, each adding a unique flavor to their on-field presence. From traditional looks to modern alternates, let’s recap the uniform journey so far this season.

The season kicked off with a memorable unveiling of the latest iteration of the Smokey Grey alternate uniforms during their dominant 69-3 victory against Chattanooga. These Smokey Grey uniforms, a fan favorite, were updated for the second consecutive year, with this version particularly emphasizing the spirit of the state of Tennessee. Key features include the iconic tri-star logo prominently displayed on the shoulder and pants, “Tennessee” boldly emblazoned across the chest, and helmet and pant stripes cleverly designed to mirror the Tennessee state flag.

In Week 2, for their game against NC State in Charlotte, North Carolina, which resulted in a 51-10 win, the Vols opted for the classic and clean all-white ensemble, similar to what they will wear against Georgia. Week 3 saw a vibrant change as Tennessee sported orange pants, orange jerseys, and white helmets in their commanding 71-0 victory over Kent State.

The all-white uniforms made another appearance in Week 4 when the Volunteers traveled to Oklahoma and secured a 25-15 victory. For their Week 6 matchup against Arkansas, Tennessee chose a combination of white jerseys, orange pants, and white helmets.

Weeks 7, 8, and 11 saw the Vols consistently in white helmets paired with orange jerseys and white pants. This combination was seen in games against Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi State, with the Mississippi State game adding “Summit Blue” accents as a special tribute.

Notably, for their Week 10 game against Kentucky, a game they won 28-18, Tennessee unleashed their striking dark mode uniforms, providing a stark and impactful visual contrast.

Tennessee’s Rich History of Alternate Football Uniforms

Beyond the standard home and away kits, Tennessee football boasts a history of impressive alternate uniforms that have become highly anticipated events for fans each season.

The “dark mode” uniforms are a prime example. Tennessee reintroduced the all-black dark mode uniforms for their 41-20 victory against South Carolina on September 30, 2023, and they were previously worn in a 44-6 win against Kentucky on October 29, 2022. While black uniforms have appeared before, the addition of a black helmet in these iterations created a completely new and modern look. These uniforms are characterized by bold orange numbers and two distinctive orange stripes on the pants.

The “Summitt Blue” accents represent another significant alternate uniform element. First introduced to honor the legendary Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt, UT incorporated “Summitt Blue” uniform accents for their 59-3 win against UConn on November 4, 2023. This tribute included orange jerseys, white pants, and white helmets, all subtly enhanced with “Summitt Blue” accessories. This poignant uniform detail was also used in 2022 against UT Martin, Summitt’s alma mater, further solidifying its place as a meaningful tribute.

The Smokey Grey uniforms themselves have a storied place in the alternate uniform narrative. Before the recent iterations, the Smokey Grey alternates made a notable appearance in a 30-13 win against Austin Peay on September 9, 2023, paying tribute to the legendary UT quarterback Condredge Holloway. Prior to the consistent use in recent seasons, the Smokey Greys had been absent since a game in 2017, making their return and evolution a significant event for Tennessee fans and uniform enthusiasts.

With the all-white uniforms chosen for the high-stakes game against Georgia, Tennessee continues to build upon its uniform legacy. Each selection not only provides a distinct visual identity on the field but also connects with the rich traditions and passionate fanbase of Volunteers football.
