According to Hawai’i athletic director David Matlin, the partnership with Adidas is expected to elevate the university’s athletic brand. “[We] look forward to our partnership with adidas and the creative ideas they have in growing our brand even further,” Matlin stated. He also acknowledged the transitional period from their previous apparel provider, ensuring a smooth shift to Adidas outfitting for all teams in the approaching seasons. While the transition to Adidas gear will be phased in across all 21 varsity sports for budgetary reasons, the football program is among the first to receive the new Adidas treatment, making the Hawaii football uniforms a focal point of this announcement.

A sneak peek at the Rainbow Warriors’ new home uniforms reveals a sleek black jersey prominently displaying “Hawai’i” across the chest in an arched wordmark. Staying true to the program’s heritage, the distinctive tapa pattern is integrated into the custom font used for the jersey numbers, echoing the design of the iconic “H” logo. Adding a unique touch that honors the island state, the eight major Hawaiian islands are subtly featured on the back collar of both the black home and white away jerseys.

While the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed, this Adidas partnership holds a unique distinction for the University of Hawai’i. With this deal, Hawai’i becomes the first Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) program to have been outfitted by all four major athletic apparel brands: Reebok, Nike, Under Armour, and now Adidas. This historical context adds another layer of significance to the unveiling of the new Hawaii football uniforms and the partnership with Adidas.
