Evidence-Based Policing and National Partnerships
TPD is dedicated to evidence-based policing practices, constantly learning and improving its strategies. Recognized for its commitment, TPD was selected as a partner agency in the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Public Safety Partnership. This collaboration focuses on combating violent crime, including drug, gang, and gun violence. This partnership has already yielded significant results, including a threefold increase in the clearance rate for non-fatal shootings. Chief Chad Kasmar leads the Tucson Police Department, bringing years of dedicated service and a deep connection to the Tucson community. A Tucson native, Chief Kasmar joined TPD in 2000 after graduating from the University of Arizona. Throughout his career, he has held various key positions within the department, demonstrating his expertise and leadership capabilities. His roles have included Deputy Chief, Chief of Staff, and Commander of the Eastside Patrol Division. The Police Chief Uniform worn by Chief Kasmar represents the authority and professionalism he embodies in leading the department.
Beyond his commitment to law enforcement, Chief Kasmar is actively involved in the community. As a father of two and an enthusiastic cyclist, he also dedicates his time to community service, serving on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson for the past 9 years. His leadership and community involvement exemplify the values of the Tucson Police Department.
