Gainesville, FL – The Florida Gators are set to make a striking statement this season by unveiling brand new alternate black Gators Football Uniforms for their highly anticipated ‘Saluting Those Who Serve’ game against the Arkansas Razorbacks on November 4th. This special game, presented by VyStar Credit Union, will honor military personnel, veterans, and local first responders in a unique and memorable way.
For the first time in the history of Florida football, the team will don black uniforms, a bold move that adds extra significance to the annual tribute. Reflecting the core values shared by service members and the team spirit of the Gators, each jersey will feature a customized nameplate. Instead of player names, these nameplates will display one of five words embodying the principles of service: Commitment, Courage, Excellence, Honor, and Integrity. These impactful terms were thoughtfully selected by representatives from each branch of the military and first responder organizations.
“Gator Nation’s excitement about the black gators football uniforms is fantastic, but we must remember the deeper purpose,” emphasized Florida Head Coach Billy Napier. “Our goal is to raise awareness and express our sincere gratitude to all branches of the military and first responders. While these new uniforms will bring an exciting element to the game, it’s ultimately about recognizing the selfless individuals who dedicate their lives to public service and risk their safety every day.”
Beyond the game day spectacle, the Gators are extending their appreciation throughout the week. Each practice leading up to the game will conclude with a member from a different U.S. military branch addressing the team. This initiative aims to deepen the players’ understanding and respect for those who serve. “There are invaluable lessons our team can learn from these exceptional individuals,” Napier noted. “Last year’s military speakers profoundly impacted our players and staff, fostering a greater sense of gratitude for the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.”
Fans eager to witness the Gators in their new gators football uniforms and support this honorable cause can purchase tickets for the Arkansas game on November 4th now. For every ticket bought, the UAA will donate a ticket to a local military hero, up to 2,000 donations.
The excitement extends to the entire 2023 season.
