The Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) has officially revealed the much-anticipated uniforms for Team Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, showcasing a design that perfectly marries comfort, functionality, and a strong sense of “Brazilianness”. Created in partnership with Peak Sports, the official sponsor and a prominent Chinese sportswear company, the uniforms are designed to equip athletes for success while proudly representing their nation on the world stage.
On June 3rd, the unveiling ceremony, broadcast by Canal Olímpico Brazil, offered a sneak peek into the stylish and practical apparel that Brazilian athletes will sport in Tokyo. Ten Olympic athletes modeled the uniforms at the Time Brasil Training Center in Rio de Janeiro, in a closed event adhering to strict safety protocols. This event marked 50 days before the Games’ opening ceremony, building excitement and anticipation for Brazil’s participation.
Manoela Penna, the NOC Communication and Marketing director, expressed her satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “We are very happy with the result of the pieces created by Peak Sports, with design elaborated in partnership with our marketing area. These are clothes that meet the technical requirements to face the heat and humidity of Japan, but with an important touch of “Brazilianness” and modernity, by playing with the colors of our flag.”
The extensive collection comprises an impressive 39,000 individual items, specifically designed for the NOC. This includes a comprehensive range of clothing from pants, sweaters, and shirts to shorts, tops, caps, bags, and footwear. Several key features distinguish these uniforms for the Tokyo Games. The podium uniforms feature striking color gradients, adding a modern and dynamic visual element. Furthermore, the training and village wear utilizes finer-textured 100% polyester fibers, engineered to enhance breathability and comfort in Japan’s notoriously hot and humid climate. Casual wear items prioritize comfort for athletes and officials in their daily routines within the Olympic Village. Reflecting the ongoing global health situation, Fiber Knit masks, incorporating filters and reinforced fabric, have been specially designed in green, blue, and white to complement Team Brazil’s attire.
Rosângela Santos, a celebrated South American 100-meter dash record holder and Beijing 2008 Olympic medalist, shared her enthusiastic first impression: “Amazing. Today, I mixed training shorts with a podium shirt. And I’ll just let you know that I want to use it there too. The workout uniform must be comfortable like this,” highlighting the uniform’s immediate appeal and comfort.
Cassius Duran, a pioneering Brazilian diver with three Olympic appearances and a Pan American Games podium finish, echoed this sentiment, drawing from his athlete experience: “Since I was an athlete, the ritual of receiving the uniform is one of the things I like the most. These outfits are very nice, every day they become more appropriate, with excellent quality.”
Adding to the positive reception, Hugo Calderano, a top-ranked table tennis player and multiple Pan American Games gold medalist, expressed his aspirations while trying on the uniform: “I hope to be able to use it on the podium in Tokyo,” reflecting the athletes’ hopes for success while dressed in their national colors.
In conclusion, the Brazil Olympics Uniform for Tokyo 2020 successfully blends cutting-edge sportswear technology with iconic Brazilian design elements. The collection ensures that Team Brazil will not only be well-equipped to perform at their best in the challenging Tokyo climate but will also proudly showcase their national identity with style and comfort. The positive feedback from athletes further underscores the uniform’s success in meeting the demands of both performance and national representation on the Olympic stage.
