The United States Army is set to introduce a new service uniform, bringing back the iconic “Army Greens” reminiscent of the uniforms worn by the “Greatest Generation” during World War II. This updated Army New Dress Uniform marks a significant shift in military attire, repositioning the current Army Blues uniform to formal dress occasions while Army Greens will become the standard business-wear uniform for all Soldiers. The Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) Army Combat Uniform will continue to serve as the Army’s duty and field uniform.

This transition to the Army Greens uniform is designed to be cost-neutral for enlisted Soldiers, enabling them to acquire the new uniform using their existing annual clothing allowance. The new army dress uniform will offer options for female Soldiers, including versions with skirts or pants, alongside varied shoe choices, ensuring inclusivity and functionality.
Fielding of the Army Greens is scheduled to commence with Soldiers reporting to their first units as early as the summer of 2020. A mandatory wear date for all Soldiers is set for 2028, allowing ample time for phased implementation. Importantly, the introduction of this new army dress uniform will not incur additional costs for American taxpayers, and it will be manufactured domestically in the USA, supporting American industries.
