Washington Commanders New Uniform Concepts: A Fan Perspective

Washington Commanders New Uniform Concepts: A Fan Perspective

The Washington Commanders, formerly known as the Washington Redskins, underwent a significant rebranding, including a new team name and uniforms. While the current uniforms have been met with mixed reviews, the team’s fanbase is always eager to see potential improvements and fresh designs. Recently, uniform concepts from fans have surfaced, offering interesting perspectives on how the Commanders could enhance their on-field look. This article delves into some fan-created uniform concepts for the Washington Commanders, exploring potential directions for the team’s future apparel.

One fan, Sean Walsh, has presented a set of Commanders uniform concepts that aim to refine the existing elements and draw inspiration from the team’s historical looks. These concepts focus on consistency, incorporating recognizable team colors and motifs, and offering both primary and “fauxback” options.

Primary Home & Road Uniform Concepts

Walsh’s primary uniform concepts for the Commanders emphasize the team’s most recognizable color combinations: burgundy and gold, and white and burgundy. These combinations are deeply rooted in the team’s successful history and resonate strongly with long-time Washington fans. The design retains the two broad stripes, ensuring they are consistently applied across the helmet, sleeves, pants, and socks. This creates a cohesive and unified visual identity.

A notable addition is the incorporation of the three-star motif from the inside of the collar. Walsh cleverly places these stars above the two stripes on the sleeves, referencing the Washington D.C. flag. This star motif is also integrated into the points of the “W” logo, making it less generic and subtly reinforcing the “Commanders” theme, which often implies military insignia. The concepts also enhance the military stencil font, making it more prominent than in the current uniforms, and pair it with a classic athletic block font, similar to that used by the Washington Nationals baseball team.

Fauxback Home & Road Uniform Concepts

In addition to the primary uniforms, Walsh also designed “fauxback” concepts, tapping into the popular trend of throwback-inspired designs. These uniforms utilize darker, more muted versions of the team’s colors – maroon and old gold – reminiscent of recent Washington throwbacks. The home fauxback concept features a gold helmet, a nod to historical Washington looks, and cream numbers on the home jersey, with a lighter cream jersey for the away version.

The fauxback designs simplify the stripes to a single stripe on the pants and helmet. The two stripes from the sleeves are relocated to the shoulders, emulating epaulettes, further reinforcing the military theme in a subtle and stylish way. These fauxback concepts offer a vintage aesthetic while maintaining a modern sensibility.

These fan-created concepts offer a glimpse into potential directions for the Washington Commanders’ uniforms. By focusing on the team’s color heritage, incorporating local symbolism, and blending classic and modern design elements, these concepts provide a compelling vision for the Commanders’ on-field appearance. Whether the team considers fan input or opts for entirely different designs, the discussion around new uniforms remains a hot topic for the Washington fanbase.
