Washington Commanders Uniforms: A Return to Classic Colors on the Horizon?

The Washington Commanders have experienced a remarkable turnaround in a short period. Just a couple of years removed from new ownership, a completely overhauled coaching staff and roster, and the emergence of an NFL Rookie of the Year quarterback, the Commanders are now envisioning a future with genuine Super Bowl aspirations after enduring years in the NFL wilderness.

The 2024 season saw the Commanders reach unexpected heights, culminating in an NFC Championship game appearance. Despite a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in that contest, the season is widely regarded as a success, signaling a significant culture shift within the organization and laying a solid foundation for future growth.

Looking ahead, the Commanders’ future might echo their past in more ways than one. A potential return to their original Washington D.C. home at the RFK Stadium site is increasingly plausible. Furthermore, owner Josh Harris recently addressed the persistent calls for a team name change, firmly stating that a change from Commanders is not under consideration. However, when discussing the team’s uniform colors, Harris hinted at a nostalgic shift, mentioning a return to “our” brand.

Harris’s remarks are particularly intriguing for fans eager for a visual connection to the team’s history. While the Redskins moniker seems firmly in the past, despite some recent throwback merchandise, the focus appears to be shifting towards the team’s visual identity. The current Washington Commanders Uniforms, characterized by bold red, may be making way for a more traditional aesthetic.

The existing uniforms have been criticized for lacking originality and not effectively representing the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) community. Therefore, it’s highly likely that Harris and the Commanders leadership are exploring a return to the franchise’s roots when considering the next iteration of the Washington Commanders uniforms. This could mean a move towards more classic color schemes and designs that resonate with the team’s rich history and the loyal fanbase in the DMV region.
