Florida State football is showcasing its new Seminole Heritage uniforms on the field for the first time at today’s Spring Showcase. These unique turquoise jerseys, which were released last year, are being worn in a limited capacity during the event, serving as non-contact indicators for players.
This initiative is part of a broader athletic department tradition where multiple Florida State teams have adopted turquoise in their uniforms. Florida State football first unveiled its version of the Seminole Heritage uniforms in September 2023. During the program’s inaugural Seminole Heritage game against Duke, the coaching staff sported turquoise-themed apparel, setting the stage for this year’s on-field debut for the players.

Florida State men’s basketball pioneered the turquoise color scheme at the university, introducing it in 2013 as part of Nike’s N7 collection. Nike’s N7 initiative supports Native American and Indigenous communities by promoting sports and physical activity. Proceeds from the sales of Seminole Heritage merchandise are directed to Florida State’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Center. This center is dedicated to supporting programs for Indigenous youth at FSU and enhancing public knowledge about the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
The university has stated that the turquoise uniforms represent a meaningful departure from their traditional colors. They symbolize the importance of sports for Native American and Aboriginal youth. Furthermore, the color turquoise is intentionally used to honor Florida State University’s special relationship and fellowship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, representing harmony and friendship within Native American communities.
