The LA Kings have officially introduced their brand-new permanent uniforms, showcasing a design that merges classic elements with a modern aesthetic. These home and away jerseys prominently feature the team’s updated primary logo, signaling a fresh era for the franchise.
Fans will get their first glimpse of the new jerseys this weekend in Las Vegas, where the Kings are set to make their first pick at the 2024 National Hockey League (NHL) Draft. The home uniform is slated for its on-ice debut in September during the 2024 Rookie Faceoff tournament, hosted by the Kings. Hockey enthusiasts can anticipate seeing the away uniform in action during the Kings’ inaugural preseason game later that same month.
The striking black, silver, and white uniforms encapsulate the LA Kings’ recent brand evolution, emphasizing the team’s new logos and design language. Drawing inspiration from the popular 90s era Kings jerseys, the updated design also incorporates a refined crown, a nod to the team’s origins in 1967. Adding to the visual appeal is an enhanced silver, bringing a fresh shimmer to the classic color palette.
Both the white away jersey and the black home jersey share a unified design philosophy. A key feature is the enlarged primary crest, now more prominent and centered on the front of each jersey. To enhance on-ice visibility, the lettering for player names and numbers on the back of the jerseys has been re-engineered with a higher contrast configuration. Furthermore, the numbers on the bicep area are now positioned higher, closer to the shoulder, improving readability for fans in the stands and viewers at home.
A standout element of the new black home uniform is the introduction of a matte black helmet. This bold choice is believed to mark a historic first in the NHL, with the Kings potentially being the first team to adopt a matte black helmet as a full-time component of their uniform. Continuing their partnerships, Mercury Insurance will feature on the jersey, and Blue Shield of California will be prominently displayed on the helmet for the 2024-25 season. The white away uniform will be paired with the same white helmet used in the previous season, maintaining a consistent look for road games.
For the upcoming 2024-25 season, the Kings have confirmed they will not be utilizing an alternate uniform. This announcement also means that the distinctive shiny silver helmet, affectionately known as the “chrome dome,” will not be part of the team’s new uniform collection.
Last week marked the official “retirement” of the Kings’ most recent primary logo, which was initially introduced in 2008 as a feature on an alternate jersey. In 2011, this logo was adopted as the team’s primary mark, alongside the iconic black, silver, and white team colors, which remain unchanged. Notably, the Kings hoisted both of their Stanley Cups while wearing the black version of that now-retired jersey, adding a layer of history to this uniform transition.
Further details regarding the 2024 Rookie Faceoff event will be announced by the Kings in the coming weeks. The 2024 NHL Draft, where the new uniforms will make their debut, is scheduled to take place this weekend in Las Vegas. The LA Kings currently hold four draft selections, including the 21st overall pick, making it an exciting time for the franchise and its fanbase.
