WASHINGTON – In a significant announcement, the United States Army has officially introduced its new service uniform: the distinguished “Army Greens.” This New Dress Army Uniform draws inspiration from the attire of the “Greatest Generation” who served during World War II, marking a return to a historically significant aesthetic. The transition will redefine uniform standards within the force, repositioning the existing Army Blues uniform for formal occasions and establishing the Army Greens as the standard business-wear uniform for all Soldiers. The Army Combat Uniform, known as the Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), will continue to serve as the Army’s designated duty and field uniform.

This shift to the Army Greens uniform is designed to be cost-neutral for enlisted personnel, allowing them to procure the new uniforms using their existing annual clothing allowance. Understanding the diverse needs of the force, female Soldiers will be provided with options for both skirts and pants, along with a broader selection of shoe styles, ensuring both comfort and professionalism. The rollout of the new dress army uniform is scheduled to commence with Soldiers arriving at their first duty stations as early as the summer of 2020. By 2028, all Soldiers across the Army will be required to wear the Army Greens, completing the full implementation of this uniform update. Importantly, this uniform modernization initiative will not incur additional expenses for American taxpayers, and the uniforms will be proudly manufactured in the USA, reinforcing domestic industry.
