Harvard University Uniform Guidance Audit Reports: Ensuring Compliance

The Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) at Harvard University plays a crucial role in maintaining the institution’s compliance with federal regulations, particularly the Uniform Guidance. This guidance sets forth standards for financial management and audits of federal awards. Ensuring adherence to these regulations is paramount for Harvard to uphold its commitment to sponsors and maintain the integrity of its research and sponsored programs.

Disclosure Statements (DS-2)

Previously, institutions like Harvard University, receiving significant federal funding, were required to submit Disclosure Statement (DS-2) forms. However, the Uniform Guidance has removed this requirement. For reference, Harvard’s most recent DS-2 filings serve as a historical record of the university’s practices in managing sponsored funds.

Audits and Uniform Guidance Compliance

Harvard University undergoes annual audits to assess its compliance with the Uniform Guidance, Subpart F – Audit Requirements. These audits are conducted by external auditors and are essential for demonstrating accountability to federal sponsors. The audit reports, also known as A-133 audit reports or Uniform Guidance Single Audits, provide a detailed review of Harvard’s financial management and compliance practices related to sponsored funding.

For each fiscal year, Harvard publishes its Uniform Guidance audit report, demonstrating its commitment to transparency and accountability. These reports are available for review, offering insights into the university’s adherence to federal regulations. In line with its obligations to sponsors, Harvard University is committed to cooperating fully with all sponsored audit requests. Any inquiries related to sponsored audits should be directed to the designated contacts within the OSP.

For detailed information regarding audit processes and requirements, please refer to the Auditing webpage within the Managing an Award section of the OSP website.
