Updated Combat Cloth Face Coverings

Starting in June 2021, soldiers saw a change in the color of the Combat Cloth Face Covering. The previously issued Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) face coverings were replaced with black and coyote brown options. This update provides soldiers with more versatile and practical face coverings suitable for various environments and operational needs. New recruits at key Initial Entry Training locations including Fort Sill, Fort Leonard Wood, Fort Benning, and Fort Jackson now receive one black and one coyote brown face covering as part of their initial issue. For soldiers already in service, the clothing replacement allowance covers these new face coverings, and they are readily available for purchase at Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) locations. Units operating under the replacement-in-kind system can also request replacements for worn or unusable face coverings through their unit supply personnel.
Female Version of the Hot Weather Combat Uniform

Recognizing the importance of properly fitting uniforms for all soldiers, the Army introduced a female-specific design of the Improved Hot Weather Combat Uniform. Building upon the success of the initial design, this version incorporates specific features and a wider range of sizes tailored for females and smaller-statured males. The jacket, available in 16 sizes, features adjustments such as a smaller neck opening, rebalanced shoulder design, lengthened side seams, and a reduced armhole area, ensuring a more comfortable and functional fit. Similarly, the trousers, also offered in 16 sizes, include an adjustable waistband, reshaped inseam at the knee, and a shorter leg length. Critical adjustments to chest, waist, and hip ratios further enhance the fit and functionality of the uniform for female soldiers. This updated uniform became available starting in August 2021, marking a significant step towards inclusivity and improved performance.
Additions to the Clothing Bag: Gloves and Socks

In a move to further enhance soldier readiness and comfort, the Army clothing bag received key additions in March 2022. Army combat gloves were added to the standard issue, providing soldiers with essential hand protection in various field conditions. Another notable change was the replacement of white socks with black socks in the clothing bag. Recruits undergoing Initial Entry Training now receive a pair of black socks upon arrival and an additional six pairs after being properly fitted for their athletic footwear. This switch to black socks is aimed at improving practicality and uniformity in soldier dress.

Responding to feedback from the field and prioritizing the needs of female soldiers, two more significant additions were made to the female clothing bag. A nursing t-shirt and a maternity physical fitness uniform were introduced to support pregnant and nursing soldiers. The maternity physical fitness uniform was rigorously tested by pregnant soldiers, who provided positive feedback on the form, fit, and functionality of two leading designs. Following further evaluations and limited user assessments, the Defense Logistics Agency proceeded with contracting and distribution in March 2022. These additions demonstrate the Army’s commitment to supporting the diverse needs of its soldiers throughout their service.

The update to the Army current uniform extends to footwear as well. As early as May 2021, the Defense Logistics Agency began evaluating the supply-request package for an updated version of the hot weather boots. These boots are designed to provide enhanced comfort and performance in hot weather conditions. Following a coordinated rollout plan, military clothing stores are expected to feature the new hot weather boots starting in 2024, providing soldiers with advanced footwear for demanding environments.
