Colorado State Football has introduced its fresh uniforms for the 2023 season and beyond, blending a modern aesthetic with a nod to the program’s rich history. These new Csu Football Uniforms, while contemporary, incorporate design elements that evoke a classic, old-school football feel, particularly with the addition of stripes to the pants.
Here’s the official reveal of the new look:
Green. • Gold. • 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐭.
That’s who we are. That’s who we’ve always been.

A noticeable change in these csu football uniforms is the departure from the bone horns on the shoulders. The updated jerseys now feature horizontal stripes in their place, offering a different visual appeal. Similarly, the pants have been redesigned; previously solid gold or white, they now sport a prominent green vertical stripe flanked by thinner white stripes, adding a dynamic element to the overall uniform. The word “RAMS” which was previously featured on the left pant leg of the road jersey has also been removed in this iteration of the csu football uniforms.
To appreciate the transformation, here’s a comparison with the road jersey from 2016-2022:
Historically, reminiscing about the Sonny Lubick era in the 1990s, the Rams favored all-gold pants without stripes. This period also marked the transition from yellow to the distinctive “Vegas” gold. However, as highlighted in a Rocky Mountain Collegian article, stripes were a recurring feature on CSU Football uniforms, appearing on pants and sometimes jerseys from the 1940s through the 1980s. While briefly reintroduced in 2010 and 2011 by Russell Athletic, the striped pants are now back as a core design element, signaling a return to a more traditional aesthetic for the csu football uniforms.
According to John Hirn, author of “Aggies to Rams: The History of Football at Colorado State University,” the new csu football uniforms deliberately pay tribute to the uniforms of the 1950s.

While the new csu football uniforms are celebrated as clean and classic, these changes mean a reduction in the variety of uniform combinations previously available to the team.
Streamlined Options for Game Day Uniforms
With the unveiling of the 2023 csu football uniforms, some previous options have been retired, at least for regular game days. The white pants and green pants, which allowed for combinations like white-on-white, white-on-green, green-on-white, and green-on-green, are no longer part of the standard rotation. Similarly, the white bone horn helmets might also be phased out. This streamlining of options has evoked mixed reactions from fans.
Fan feedback on Twitter shows a blend of nostalgia and acceptance:
Will miss all the different combinations

Bringing back more gold in the uniforms is nice to see. Will miss the all-white combo though.

Special Uniforms Still on the Horizon
Despite the changes to the standard csu football uniforms, the excitement of special edition uniforms for Ag Day and State Pride games remains. Colorado State Football has confirmed that while white pants will not be a regular feature, these beloved special uniforms will still be revealed later in the season.
Clean and classic.

The Ag Day orange jerseys, a tradition since 2010, have consistently been a fan favorite. The 2021 version featured the old-school Ram logo on a white helmet, while other iterations have included an orange bone design on a green helmet.

Equally popular are the State Pride uniforms, known for their all-white design with blue stripes and the Colorado flag “C” emblem on the helmet.

Colorado State Football will commence their 2023 season against Washington State on Saturday, September 2nd, at Canvas Stadium. With high anticipation for the season and the new csu football uniforms, the university aims for a sell-out crowd, with fewer than 10,000 tickets reportedly still available.
