Florida State Seminoles football is set to showcase their distinctive Seminole Heritage uniforms on the field for the first time during today’s Spring Showcase. After their initial release last year, these alternate jerseys will make their on-field debut, albeit in a unique way. During the showcase, these turquoise-accented uniforms will serve as indicators for non-contact players, rather than being worn across the entire team.
This adoption of turquoise is part of a wider athletic department initiative at Florida State. While the Seminole Heritage uniforms for football were officially unveiled in September 2023, only the coaching staff sported turquoise apparel during the inaugural Seminole Heritage game against Duke last season. This Spring Showcase marks a significant step in integrating these special uniforms into the team’s visual identity.
For clarity on today’s uniform breakdown:
- Quarterbacks/ Non-contact: Turquoise
- Offense (excluding QBs): White
- Defense: Garnet

Florida State’s men’s basketball team pioneered the use of this color scheme within the university, introducing turquoise uniforms back in 2013. These were part of Nike’s N7 collection, linked to the N7 fund which supports sports programs in Native American and Indigenous communities. Significantly, proceeds from the sales of Seminole Heritage merchandise are directed to Florida State’s Native American and Indigenous Studies Center. This center plays a vital role in supporting programs for Indigenous youth at FSU and promoting public education about the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
According to Florida State University, the turquoise uniforms represent a deliberate move away from the traditional garnet and gold to highlight the importance of sports and physical activity for Native American and Aboriginal youth. The color turquoise itself holds deep meaning, symbolizing harmony, friendship, and fellowship within Native American cultures. Its use by Florida State is a tribute to the university’s special and enduring relationship with the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
The 2024 Florida State Spring Showcase is scheduled to commence at 4 p.m. ET at Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium. Fans unable to attend in person can watch the event live on the ACC Network.
