This exploration began with a completely unrelated idea – a website dedicated to tracking NFL fines. During the initial brainstorming phase, the need for a logo sparked a Google search for NFL logos, which unexpectedly led to a blog showcasing proof-of-concept uniform designs for the Green Bay Packers. Published on a somewhat obscure blog, these images unveiled a unique vision for the team’s on-field apparel, originating from a design firm based in Minneapolis.
These intriguing concepts were initially brought to life by Steve Wåhlin, a designer at the Minneapolis-based firm BKRDSN. Originally posted on the BKRDSN website in February 2012 as part of a “B Inspired: NFL Teams” series, the designs have since been removed from their site. Thankfully, the power of the internet archive, The Wayback Machine, allows us to revisit these lost designs and appreciate the creative thinking behind them. This digital time capsule revealed the original context of these uniform concepts, ensuring these design explorations are not forgotten.
The concept designs present several interesting departures from the Packers’ traditional uniforms. One notable element is the reimagining of the iconic “G” logo on the helmet.
