Las Vegas Athletics Uniforms: Early Design Discussions and Sacramento Plans

The Oakland Athletics are gearing up for a significant transition, and discussions around their uniforms are already underway as they prepare for their move to Las Vegas. Team President Dave Kaval has provided insights into the initial stages of designing Las Vegas Athletics Uniforms and clarified uniform plans for their interim period in Sacramento.

Speaking to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Kaval revealed that the Athletics have commenced the process of developing uniforms for their highly anticipated Las Vegas debut, slated for 2028. This proactive approach underscores the long lead time required for such significant branding changes within Major League Baseball.

“We’re starting that with Nike and with the league because it takes a couple of years to get that figured out,” Kaval stated. He further mentioned the involvement of their marketing team in this creative endeavor, emphasizing the importance of aligning the team’s visual identity with their new Las Vegas chapter. This early initiation suggests that the Las Vegas Athletics uniforms might involve more than just a simple city name swap, hinting at a potentially more comprehensive rebrand.

Sacramento Athletics Uniforms: A Temporary Look

While the future Las Vegas Athletics uniforms are in the early design phase, immediate uniform plans are set for the team’s temporary relocation to Sacramento for the 2025, 2026, and 2027 seasons. During this interim period, the team will not feature a city designation on their jerseys.

Kaval clarified that the jerseys will uniformly read “Athletics” across the chest, irrespective of their home or away games during their Sacramento tenure. This decision to maintain a city-neutral identity, even while playing in Sacramento, is noteworthy.

“In Sacramento we’ll be playing with the Athletics across the jersey, home and away,” Kaval confirmed.

Based on this information, projections for the Sacramento Athletics uniforms indicate a straightforward adaptation of their current style. The existing Oakland Athletics road grey and alternate Kelly Green jerseys are expected to be repurposed, with the “Oakland” wordmarks replaced by “Athletics” wordmarks.

This approach suggests that the home white and alternate yellow jerseys, which currently do not feature “Oakland,” are likely to remain unchanged for the Sacramento seasons. Interestingly, this uniform strategy is being implemented despite the Athletics having trademarked “Sacramento Athletics” and “Sacramento A’s” names, indicating a deliberate choice to maintain a broader, less geographically specific team identity during this transition.

Looking Ahead to Las Vegas

The Oakland Athletics’ journey involves moves to Sacramento and then ultimately to Las Vegas, marking a significant chapter in the franchise’s history. Established in 1901, the team will have represented five different cities – Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland, Sacramento, and Las Vegas – by the time they settle into their new Nevada home, targeted for the 2028 MLB season.

As fans eagerly anticipate the Las Vegas Athletics uniforms, the initial design discussions signal the beginning of an exciting new visual era for the team. While the Sacramento uniforms will serve as a practical and transitional solution, the focus is clearly shifting towards creating a distinct and compelling brand identity for the Athletics in Las Vegas.
