The Philadelphia Phillies have officially entered the City Connect program, revealing their brand new alternate uniforms. As the first of nine MLB teams to launch their City Connect gear this season, the Phillies are generating excitement with a bold design that honors their home city. These striking blue-and-yellow Phillies Alternate Uniforms will be worn for every Friday home game at Citizens Bank Park, starting April 12th. Fans eager to sport the new look can purchase the apparel collection now, exclusively at the New Era Phillies Team Store at Citizens Bank Park until April 12th. The Phillies and Fanatics marked the launch with a Phillies Block Party at the ballpark, leading up to a game against the Nationals.
Having observed the successful City Connect uniform rollouts since the program’s inception in 2021, the Phillies strategically developed their design concept. Inspired by the Houston Astros’ popular space-themed uniforms, the Phillies aimed for a similarly impactful launch. Howard Smith, Phillies VP/Business Affairs, noted the advantage of learning from the previous 20 team launches, allowing them to refine their approach.
The resulting Phillies alternate uniforms are, in Smith’s words, “unapologetically Philly.” They are designed as “a love letter to the city through the lens of the flag,” incorporating the distinctive blue and yellow of Philadelphia’s flag. Key design elements highlight Philadelphia’s identity. The bright blue collar symbolizes the city’s blue-collar work ethic. A sleeve patch proudly displays “City of Brotherly Love,” with the Liberty Bell cleverly integrated into the word “Love.” Completing the uniform, the cap features the Liberty Bell and the Philadelphia skyline, accented by two stars taken from the team’s classic logo.
