The vast world of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TOTK) offers players a plethora of armor sets, each with unique attributes and visual appeal. Among these, the Royal Guard Uniform stands out as a particularly useful set, especially in the early to mid-game. While it doesn’t offer set bonuses, its individual pieces provide a significant defense boost, making Link more resilient against Hyrule’s dangers. This guide will provide a step-by-step walkthrough on how to acquire the complete Royal Guard armor set, allowing you to enhance Link’s survivability in Tears of the Kingdom.
Acquiring the Royal Guard Cap
The first piece of the Royal Guard set, the Royal Guard Cap, is located within Hyrule Castle, specifically in Princess Zelda’s Room. Reaching this location requires a bit of navigation but is achievable early in your adventure. Start your journey at the Sanctum, which is directly accessible from Hyrule Castle’s front entrance. Once inside the Sanctum, take the left exit to step outside, where you’ll spot a solitary tower. Your next move involves gliding from the cliff edge directly towards the tower’s entrance. This will lead you to Princess Zelda’s Study.
Upon entering Princess Zelda’s Study, you’ll find some weapons but not the Royal Guard Cap itself. Exit the study to find a stone bridge. Across the bridge, you’ll see another doorway directly opposite the study’s entrance. Quickly traverse the bridge, as the central section is designed to collapse. As it gives way, you’ll drop into the building below, which is Princess Zelda’s Room. Inside, locate a treasure chest nestled in the room’s corner, concealed behind some changing dividers. Opening this chest will reward you with the Royal Guard Cap.
Locating the Royal Guard Uniform
With the Royal Guard Cap secured, remain in Princess Zelda’s Room to pursue the next piece: the Royal Guard Uniform. Find the hole in the wall adjacent to where you found the Royal Guard Cap’s chest. Exit through this opening and glide left and downwards, towards the base of the floating Hyrule Castle. Your target is the First Gatehouse. As you approach the gatehouse, look for a large doorway carved into the mountainside. Enter this doorway and use Ultrahand to lift the two gates blocking your path. Proceed up the stairs and immediately turn left to avoid encountering enemies patrolling the main path.
You will now be in a hallway with Gloom spreading at its end. Turn left again and descend the stairs into the Guards’ Chambers. Continue down the stairs within the chambers until you reach a wooden walkway suspended above a pool of Gloom. To proceed, you’ll need to step into the Gloom and use Ascend to pass through the walkway above.
While Gloom-resistant armor or food can mitigate damage, a swift Ascend will allow you to avoid damage entirely. Upon ascending, you’ll find the treasure chest containing the Royal Guard Uniform directly in front of you.
Finding the Royal Guard Boots
For the final piece, the Royal Guard Boots, glide back towards Hyrule Castle from the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower. This time, circle around the right side of the castle until you spot the Serutabomac Shrine. This shrine is located behind the castle structure. Activate the Serutabomac Shrine as a fast travel point, then jump down the cliff twice to discover a hidden passageway situated beneath the shrine.
Proceed down the stairs until you reach the Library. Descend to the Library’s bottom floor and face the entrance. You’ll see a large bookcase. Utilize Ultrahand to interact with the bookcase, revealing that a section of it is movable. Manipulate this section to uncover a hidden room: the King’s Study. Inside the King’s Study, you will find the treasure chest containing the Royal Guard Boots, completing your Royal Guard armor set in Tears of the Kingdom.
