Ranking the University of Missouri Football Uniforms from the 2022 Season

After a shift towards a more classic aesthetic in 2021, the University of Missouri football team, also known as the Mizzou Tigers, surprised fans by unveiling a series of refreshed football uniforms for the 2022 season. Each week became an exciting reveal, showcasing script lettering, the use of white jerseys for home games, and diverse tiger logos across the field.

This experimentation with the University Of Missouri Football Uniforms was generally well-received. Both players and fans expressed enthusiasm for the updated decals and color combinations. While the new uniform sets maintained a connection to the traditional look, some fans hoped for a greater emphasis on classic helmet designs.

Below is a ranking of the top University of Missouri football uniforms from the past season, along with the team’s performance while wearing each set.

Note: The 2022 season saw Mizzou adopt a more modern approach to their uniform designs. While personally, I appreciate modern aesthetics, incorporating more of the iconic “Block M” logo would be a welcome addition. It’s important to acknowledge the appeal of classic designs, and perhaps a dedicated throwback uniform once a season would be a great nod to the program’s history.

No. 5: Missouri vs. Vanderbilt University Football Uniforms (Oct. 22)

Uniform Set-Up: Black helmet with a stripe, Sailor Tiger logo, 2022 gold jersey, 2021 black pants

Game Record: 1-0

There are several appealing aspects to this University of Missouri football uniform combination. The Sailor Tiger logo, in particular, is a fantastic emblem to feature occasionally throughout the season, and it complements the gold jerseys exceptionally well.

The most compelling element of this set is the coordinated facemask. A key factor in evaluating football uniforms is the consistency of the color scheme across all components. This uniform excels in that regard, seamlessly integrating gold, black, and white throughout. The gold facemask injects vibrancy into the helmet and harmonizes beautifully with the gold jersey.

It would be great to see more college football programs adopt this level of color coordination for their facemasks in every game. While many teams do prioritize this, some, like Illinois with their white facemasks clashing against orange and blue uniforms, could improve in this area.

No. 4: Missouri vs. New Mexico State University Football Uniforms (Nov. 19)

Uniform Set-Up: White helmet with gold and black stripe, Gold Tiger script logo, 2022 gold jersey, 2021 white pants

Game Record: 1-0

It’s challenging to misstep with light colors and white in football uniform design, and Mizzou successfully executed this combination. The gold script lettering appears crisp and refined against the white helmet. Opting for a black facemask over gold was a smart decision, although a white facemask might also be an interesting alternative to explore for this University of Missouri football uniform.

This uniform is another example of consistent color integration across the entire set, ensuring that every color is present in each element. The only minor improvement could be incorporating more gold detailing into the cleats.

No. 3: Missouri University Football Uniforms at Florida (Oct. 8)

Uniform Set-Up: Gold helmet with black and white stripe, White Tiger script logo, 2022 white jersey, 2021 gold pants

Game Record: 1-1 (also worn against Abilene Christian)

The Missouri football program clearly appreciated the look of this uniform, choosing to wear it twice during the 2022 season. It was one of only two uniform combinations to be repeated, along with the all-black set worn against Louisiana Tech and Georgia.

The pairing of gold and white is inherently appealing. This uniform essentially reverses the color scheme of the No. 4 ranked uniform, but it earns a higher position due to the helmet’s enhanced visual impact with these colors, particularly in sunny conditions. The gold helmet and pants stand out prominently on the field, while the white script logo adds a touch of sophistication to the helmet of this University of Missouri football uniform.

A potential modification could involve switching to a white facemask. While black is a solid choice, white could further amplify the crisp, clean aesthetic.

No. 2: Missouri University Football Uniforms at South Carolina (Oct. 29)

Uniform Set-Up: White helmet with gold and black stripe, Black Tiger script logo, 2022 white jersey, 2021 white pants

Game Record: 1-0

Missouri secured their most significant victory of the season, based on the opponent’s final record, while sporting a pristine all-white University of Missouri football uniform. This marked the first all-white ensemble since Week 2 of the 2021 season against Kentucky, and it was a triumphant return.

This game featured the sole appearance of the black Tiger script logo. Although it might not be the most visually striking color variant of the script, the black effectively served its purpose. The uniform maintained color consistency, with white as the dominant color and gold and black acting as accents throughout, resulting in a polished and professional appearance for the Missouri Tigers football team.

Experimenting with the facemask and script logo colors could lead to interesting variations, such as gold, black, or white. Regardless of the chosen colors, this particular uniform design is inherently strong and versatile.

No. 1: Missouri vs. Arkansas University Football Uniforms (Nov. 25)

Uniform Set-Up: Black helmet with gold and white stripe, Gold Tiger script logo, 2021 black jersey, 2021 black pants

Game Record: 1-0

The Tiger script logo designs dominate the top rankings, claiming the top four spots on this list of University of Missouri football uniforms. Personally, the script logo looks most impactful on the black helmet, especially when paired with the gold facemask. This uniform set was the only instance where the script helmet logos matched the facemask color, a design choice that could have been effectively applied to the other script helmet sets as well.

Beyond the helmet detail, the all-black uniform has become a signature look for Missouri in this “modern” uniform era. Under stadium lights, the all-black aesthetic becomes even more impressive. If any version of the script helmet is to return next season, it should undoubtedly be this striking black and gold combination, solidifying its place as the best University of Missouri football uniform of the 2022 season.
