As anticipation builds for the release of EA Sports College Football 25, Rice University has jumped into the fray of teams showcasing fresh looks by revealing their updated football uniforms for the 2024 season. Joining a wave of programs nationwide unveiling new gear, the Rice Owls have presented a modern twist on their classic aesthetic.
The university unveiled the new uniforms on Saturday, showcasing four distinct combinations. Key Rice Football players – running back Dean Connors, wide receiver Tyson Thompson, outside linebacker Josh Pearcy, and free safety Gabe Taylor – modeled the updated designs, giving fans a first glimpse of what the Owls will sport on the gridiron this year.

While not a complete overhaul, the 2024 uniform update introduces noticeable changes. Rice has refreshed the jersey number font, opting for a more contemporary style. Additionally, shoulder stripes have been incorporated onto the sleeves, adding a classic football uniform element to the design. Crucially, the iconic “RICE” lettering across the chest remains unchanged, maintaining a vital link to the program’s established visual identity.
The Owls will continue to utilize a versatile system of uniform components, mixing and matching blue and silver helmets, blue and white jerseys, and a trio of monochrome pant options in blue, silver, and white. This flexibility allows for numerous combinations, ensuring a fresh look for each game.

Helmet designs remain a key feature of the Rice uniform. The blue helmet proudly displays the traditional Old English ‘R’ logo, a longstanding symbol of Rice Athletics. Conversely, the silver helmet showcases the ‘R’ logo encased within the outline of the state of Texas, a nod to the university’s location and Texas pride. These helmet variations provide distinct visual identities within the broader uniform set.
This marks the first significant uniform alteration for Rice Football since 2018.
