Finally… the creamsicles and Bucco Bruce are back in Tampa Bay! With the Buccaneers recently unveiling their throwback uniforms for a game against the Detroit Lions this season, it’s the perfect time to rank every uniform combination the team has sported since their inception. Let’s dive right into it, ranking them from worst to first, focusing on the jersey and pants combinations. Socks will be mentioned occasionally, but aren’t the primary focus.
13. White/White (Alarm Clock Era)
:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24791672/579753230.jpg)
The “alarm clock” numbers are the main culprit here. While the overall design of the 2014 jerseys wasn’t universally loathed, the futuristic, digital-style numbering was a major point of contention. In an all-white combination, the effect is amplified, creating an overwhelming sense of blandness. Paired with orange socks, as was sometimes the case, it only worsened the visual misstep. This all-white iteration from the alarm clock era simply misses the mark.
12. White/Pewter (Alarm Clock Era)
:no_upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24791678/1081315194.jpg)
Moving slightly up the list is another alarm clock era combo: white jerseys with pewter pants. While the pewter pants themselves, introduced by Nike, are a decent color and design, they can’t rescue the fundamentally flawed jersey. The issue isn’t color balance here, but rather the jersey’s uninspired design, particularly those numbers. These uniforms, unfortunately, mirrored the on-field performance of the Buccaneers teams that wore them during this period – largely forgettable.
11. Red/White (Alarm Clock Era)
:no-upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24791689/830796868.jpg)
The red jersey and white pants combination from the alarm clock era fares a little better, but still falls short. There’s an imbalance, perhaps in the specific shade of red clashing slightly with the stark white pants. Interestingly, this combination was primarily seen in preseason games, never making a regular season appearance for the Buccaneers. This might suggest even the team wasn’t fully sold on this particular look.
10. White/Creamsicle (Bucco Bruce Era)
:no-upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24791699/1409840957.jpg)
This might be controversial for some. The creamsicle uniforms are iconic, a defining part of Buccaneers history and arguably NFL history. However, this specific combination – white jersey with creamsicle pants – doesn’t quite land as a top-tier look. The creamsicle pants, while nostalgic, can be visually overwhelming and detract from the overall uniform. While the creamsicle jersey itself is legendary, this particular pairing misses some of the mark.
9. Red/Pewter (Alarm Clock Era)
:no-upscale()/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/24791705/1214837675.jpg)
Here’s where the alarm clock era almost gets it right. The red jersey with pewter pants is a much stronger combination. The darker pewter provides a good anchor to the brighter red. If the numbers were different, this uniform could easily climb into the top rankings. Nike’s updated pewter shade, moving away from a shinier finish to a darker, more matte tone, works well here. Sadly, those numbers hold this uniform back from its full potential.
8. Color Rush (Alarm Clock Era)

Closing out the alarm clock era is the Color Rush uniform, debuted in 2015. Famously worn in the “mustard vs. ketchup” game against the Rams, and later adopted as an alternate, this all-red look is the best of the alarm clock designs. While it’s undeniably a lot of red, that’s the point of “Color Rush.” The saving grace here, ironically, is the numbers. On the Color Rush jersey, the alarm clock aesthetic is less pronounced, appearing more like a metallic or silver number. While it’s an improvement within the era, it’s still great to see the entire alarm clock kit retired.
7. White/White (Bucco Bruce Era)

Entering the genuinely good uniform territory, we have the all-white Bucco Bruce era combination. It’s a solid, clean look, but perhaps a bit too simple by today’s standards. Considering the era it comes from, the simplicity is understandable as uniform aesthetics have evolved considerably. However, a touch more detail would elevate this classic white-on-white.
6. White/White (The Pewter Era)

The pewter era makes its first appearance with another all-white uniform. Similar to the Bucco Bruce white-on-white, it’s a fine uniform, but lacks some excitement. What gives this pewter era version the edge is the jersey design itself. It’s a cleaner, more modern white jersey with the side logos contributing to a more complete and polished look.
5. Pewter/Pewter (Pewter Era)

The all-pewter uniform was a pleasant surprise upon its release. For fans of darker, monochrome looks, this uniform hits the spot. While not black, it’s close enough to satisfy the desire for a dark and imposing aesthetic. Being unique to the Buccaneers and utilizing their signature pewter color, it’s undeniably iconic in its own right. A popular request among fans: pairing this pewter jersey with white pants for a different take.
4. Red/White (Pewter Era)

This red jersey and white pants combo from the pewter era is underrated and underutilized. The current red jerseys, and even previous iterations, pop beautifully against the crisp white pants. It’s a vibrant and classic football look that the Buccaneers should feature more often in their rotation.
3. Creamsicle/White (Bucco Bruce Era)

An absolute icon. Mention “creamsicle” in an NFL context, and this Buccaneers uniform immediately springs to mind. Despite slight variations in the shade of creamsicle over the years, this kit remains legendary. The return of Bucco Bruce and the creamsicle uniforms is a welcome sight for fans and a nod to the team’s colorful history.
2. White/Pewter (Pewter Era)

A truly solid and winning uniform. Both versions of the pewter pants (the original and slightly updated shade) work seamlessly with the white jerseys. Adding to its legacy, the Buccaneers hoisted their second Super Bowl trophy while wearing this exact combination. This white and pewter look is synonymous with Tampa Bay Buccaneers success.
1. Red/Pewter (Pewter Era)

The pinnacle. The red jersey and pewter pants combination is, in my opinion, the perfect Buccaneers uniform. The colors are flawlessly balanced, with the red jersey complementing the pewter pants and helmet. It’s a combination that deserves to be worn more frequently at home games. Furthermore, this uniform is etched in Buccaneers history as the attire worn during their first Super Bowl victory. A championship-caliber uniform to represent a championship team.
So there you have it – my definitive ranking of Buccaneers uniform combinations. Remember, this is just one fan’s perspective, and uniform preferences are subjective. What are your favorite Bucs Uniforms? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
