After an extensive development phase spanning over a year and a half, Delta Air Lines has presented the prototype of its entirely new and contemporary uniform collection. This “distinctly Delta” uniform line is the result of collaborative efforts and incorporates crucial feedback from Delta’s 70,000 uniformed employees. This includes airport customer service agents, cargo agents, flight attendants, ground equipment mechanics, and aircraft technicians, all of whom were central to the design journey.
Since 2022, Delta has been in partnership with GPS Apparel by Gap Inc. to bring this innovative uniform prototype collection to life. Collaborating with Gap Inc., a renowned company recognized for its iconic brands like Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta, has allowed Delta to benefit from over 50 years of product and design expertise. Gap Inc.’s large-scale platform and comprehensive sourcing capabilities have been instrumental in this process. The design team at Gap Inc. gathered insights from over 20,000 Delta employees through job shadowing, focus groups, surveys, and interviews. This feedback was crucial in shaping prototypes that prioritize comfort, durability, functionality, and a modern, elevated aesthetic.
The new uniform prototypes showcase a color palette rooted in deep navy blues and rich burgundy, highlighted with accents of bright red and white. This represents a return to a more traditional color scheme that is inspired by Delta’s established brand identity and heritage. With a strong emphasis on ease of movement, breathability, inclusive fit, and durability, the Delta New Uniforms 2024 collection aims to offer a unified and sophisticated appearance. Employees will have the flexibility to choose from various styles and looks within the collection, ensuring personal preference and functional needs are met. The garments are constructed from OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100-certified fabrics and components, specifically designed for each division and role within Delta. Functional elements are incorporated to support employees in performing their duties effectively and to foster pride in wearing their uniform.
In a further tribute to Delta’s brand identity and rich history, the designers have subtly and overtly integrated the iconic widget logo throughout the delta new uniforms 2024 collection. The widget, originally introduced in 1959 and prominently featured on Delta aircraft tails, symbolizes the airline’s spirit and culture. Its flat base represents Delta’s strong foundation, while the upward-pointing top section serves as a constant reminder to “keep climbing,” embodying the airline’s forward-thinking ethos.
The complete rollout of new uniforms for all Delta employees will be a phased process. Extensive wear testing for each uniform garment is scheduled to commence later this fall. This crucial phase will provide Delta employees with the continued opportunity to influence the fit, form, and functionality of the delta new uniforms 2024 collection. The introduction of the new uniform pieces across all workgroups is projected to take place over the next few years.
Ranjan Goswami, SVP of Customer Experience Design at Delta, emphasized the thoughtful approach to this significant undertaking: “Delta has tens of thousands of uniformed employees, each with unique needs and preferences. Therefore, any evolution of the uniform program requires considerable time and careful consideration to ensure we get it right. We are dedicated to utilizing this time to actively listen, learn, and refine as we progress towards a new uniform look – one that genuinely reflects and celebrates who we are as Delta.”
