U.S. Army Revives Iconic Green Military Dress Uniform

The United States Army is set to reintroduce a distinguished piece of military history into its modern ranks: the “Army Greens” uniform. This revitalized Green Military Dress Uniform, famously worn by the “Greatest Generation” during World War II, will become the new service uniform for all soldiers, marking a return to a classic and recognizable aesthetic.

Replacing the current Army Blues uniform as the standard everyday wear, the Army Greens will serve as the business-wear equivalent for soldiers across the force. Army Blues will transition to a formal dress uniform role. The Army Combat Uniform, known for its Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP), will continue to function as the Army’s designated duty and field uniform.

In a move designed to be cost-neutral for enlisted personnel, soldiers will be able to acquire the Army Greens using their existing annual clothing allowance. Recognizing the diverse needs of the force, female soldiers will have options for both skirt and pant versions of the green military dress uniform, alongside expanded shoe choices.

The rollout of the Army Greens is scheduled to commence with soldiers reporting to their first units as early as the summer of 2020. Full mandatory adoption for all soldiers is slated for 2028. Importantly, this uniform update will not incur additional costs for American taxpayers, and aligns with a commitment to domestic manufacturing, as the uniforms will be made in the USA.

This strategic shift to the Army Greens uniform represents more than just a change in attire. It is a deliberate homage to the Army’s storied past, embodying the values and heritage of an era defined by courage and victory, all while providing a smart, functional, and modern green military dress uniform for today’s soldiers.
