Lobos to Sport Fresh New Mexico Football Uniforms Against LSU

New Mexico Lobos fans are in for a visual treat this weekend as the team unveils a brand new uniform combination for their highly anticipated matchup against LSU in the Bayou. Coach Gonzales has given the green light for the Lobos to don a striking turquoise-accented white uniform, ensuring the team will stand out on the field.

This game will mark only the second time this year that the Lobos will sport their new red helmets. Adding to the historical significance, this will be the first occasion since 1973 that the red helmet is paired with the white uniforms, offering a nod to the program’s heritage while embracing a modern aesthetic. The special turquoise accents on the white uniforms, combined with white pants, complete this eye-catching ensemble that is sure to capture the attention of college football fans.

The game’s unusual uniform dynamic stems from a long-standing tradition at LSU. While conventional rules dictate that home teams wear dark colors, LSU has been sporting white at home since 1995. This tradition began under former head coach Gerry DiNardo, who successfully petitioned for a rule change, allowing home teams, with the away team’s permission, to wear any color they choose. The SEC later reinforced this, granting home teams full prerogative over their uniform color choice.

Since 1995, LSU has embraced this white-at-home tradition. Under Nick Saban, who became head coach in 2000, this evolved further. LSU now typically wears white for home SEC games and purple for non-conference home games, with the exception of their season opener, where they consistently wear white. Staying true to this tradition, LSU is expected to wear their purple uniforms this Saturday night, clearing the way for New Mexico to showcase their white road uniforms and the exciting new turquoise combination.

For fans eager to catch the Lobos in their new threads, the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and SECN+. Listeners can also tune into KKOB radio to hear Robert Portnoy and DonTrell Moore provide live commentary of all the action.
